SARAWAK CEIO PROGRAMME: PARTICIPANTS COMMITTED TO SUSTAINING THE INTEGRITY OF CIVIL SERVANTS IN THE MALAYSIA-INDONESIA BORDER AREA

The implementation of Enhancing Integrity Project (EIP) for Certified Integrity Officers (CeIO) Siries 30 year 2022 of Sarawak on July 16 and 17, 2022 with the theme of sustaining the integrity of civil servants in the Malaysia-Indonesia border area, and shows the commitment of the CeIO participants in empowering Integrity Champions.

Eight (8) Integrity Champion were chosen among 8 main agencies that guard our national borders in ICQS Biawak, Lundu Sarawak, namely the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM); Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM); Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM); Plant Bio-Security and Quarantine Division, Malaysia Quarantine and Inspection Services; Department of Agriculture, Sarawak, Malaysia Volunteers Corps Department (RELA), Road Transport Department (JPJ), and 511th Territorial Army Regiment, Kem Sematan. 

In his closing speech, YB Dato’ Murshid Diraja Dr. Juanda Jaya, Deputy MInister, State Integrity and Ombudsman Unit,  stated that the responsibility to build  an integrity culture begins from the border to the countryside and further to the cities.

He further added that despite being a difficult and heavy burden to bear, it remains a continuous effort made by the Government of Sarawak and is in line with the Post Covid-19 2030 Development Plan or Post Covid Development Stragey (PCDS) 2030.  

Dr. Juanda further asserted that this responsibility must be shared by the 76 civil officers, from various ministries and agencies under the purview of the Government of Sarawak, who undertook the EIP project as CeIO Series 30 participants. 

YBhg Dato’ Haji Idris bin Zaharudin, Director of Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) also stated that the implementation of EIP is a main requirement for the CeIO participants be certified as Integrity Officers. 

The event covered various activities such as talks and a forum. This includes a lecture by MACC Sarawak, entitled “The importance of integrity to civil servants” and a talk by the Integrity and Ombudsman Sarawak Unit (UNIONS), entitled “Integrity Initiatives by Sarawak Government”, as well as a talk from the Immigration Department of  Malaysia, on “JIM’s role in border areas”. A forum on “Initiative to prevent corruption” was also carried out  with guest speakers from both Malaysia and Indonesia. 

The ceremony was attended by ADUN N1 Opar, YB. Billy Anak Sujang; Director UNIONS, Haji Adana Jed; District Officer Lundu, Encik Gustian Haji Dorani; Heads of Departments and Heads of Community of Lundu.
